A week that went too fast...

Hey 4th Grade!
This short week has gotten away from my and I apologize for not posting homework this week. I will be out on Friday, and Monday so the work for next week is up and ready. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Wow! It really does feel like autumn out there! This week students are "falling" into their non-fiction reading. We are still working on our personal essays. In social studies we will be delving into our local governments and how they are set up.
Parent conferences start this week! If you haven't signed up with your homeroom teacher yet, make sure you do! We love our face-to-face conferences so parents and teachers can work as a team throughout the year.
This is a week of new genres! We will be starting our unit on personal essays during the writer's workshop. In reading, we will begin tackling the strategies that great non-fiction readers use. In social studies, we will finish our study of landforms and then move into a unit about our government later this week.
Here's interesting food for thought for those of you busy with after school activities. Reading is the only out-of-school extracurricular activity linked to getting amagerial or professional job later in life! So... Pick up a good book tonight!
I can't believe week four is here! This week we will have our annual Open House/Parent Information Night. Please come on Thursday, September 20th to view your child's work and get important information about 4th grade. Open House will run from 5:30-6:00, then there will be two repeat sessions for information 6:00-6:30 & 6:45-7:15. Hope to see you there!
Wow! I can't believe it's already the 3rd week of school! We are really rolling with our writer's workshop. We are still getting the hand of picking "just-right" books, but I am sure we will be reading voraciously before we know it. In social studies this week we will be studying the regions of Texas.
Thanks to all the grandparents who came out for lunch today!
