First Week! Hooray!

We did it! We successfully started the first week of school! I am so impressed with my students! They have been working hard to learn our routines and procedures. I can already predict this will be a great year! Check out the rest of the website to find information on homework assignments and policies, events and happenings and what I'm reading!

Back From the Big Apple

I have just returned from a week in New York City at Teacher's College, Columbia University. I spent the week immersed in the culture of writing at the Reading and Writing Project August Writing Institute. SPOILER ALERT! My students this year will be well versed in the language of writing! I am so excited to share the writing techniques and strategies I have learned this week. I LOVE writing even more now, and I know YOU will too!

Getting Ready for the New School Year

We are still a few weeks away, but planning has begun! I'm working on strengthening my conferences by reading the book How's it Going by Carl Anderson. I selected this text because next week, I will be in New York at Teacher's College Summer Institute on the Writing Workshop. I am excited to spend the week with Annie and Carl learning about Literature and Research based Argument Essays and Conferencing to Move Kids and Generate Curriculum.

Count Down to Summer

What an amazing year this has been! I can't believe how much we have learned and grown! There are lots of exciting events in the upcoming weeks, but we are continuing our growth as 4th graders. This week we began a new novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, we continued working on our non-fiction research booklets, and we are studying Texans in World War II. Make sure you check the school events link, for important upcoming dates!

What a Fast Week!

I'm always amazed at how quickly spring break passes us by. That taste of warm summer days to come is so enticing, and it makes it some much harder to come back and dig into the important work ahead of us. The important work to which I refer is our first round of state testing that will begin in 10 school days! Yikes!

But, there is a bit of fun to be had in the meantime. I hope you can come join us at school this Thursday, March 21 for our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Night. The PTO meeting starts at 5:30 with other events beginning at 6:00. These include ice cream social, book fair, science and math games and special presenters in a STEM field. We hope you can make it out!!
